Making Room For Baby
Thinking of remodeling or redoing your baby's room? Contemplating a
new addition for your new addition?
As our parents used to say, "you can never be too rich, too thin, or
have too many bathrooms! Well, maybe not the part about
bathrooms, but wouldn't it be great if you could snap your
fingers and a new baby's room and extra bath just appeared?
Adding on or remodeling to make more room for baby takes a lot of
your time and your hard earned money. Here's a way to get off
to a good start--only hire contractors who are licensed by the
State of California and have the newly required “Home
Improvement Certification”.
If your contractor has an active license, you can be sure of the
following:
1. He’s passed a test given by the State,
2. He has posted a bond for $7,500 or an approved alternate (if
things go wrong) and,
3. He has insurance to cover his employees if injured.
There are of course many factors to consider in selecting a
contractor---and the proper license is only one of them.
Before you even begin to make decisions,
make sure that the contractor you are considering (and all of
his sub-contractors) have active licenses as well as a Home
Improvement Certification.
You can easily check out the status of your contractor’s license.
Ask him or her for the license number and call the License Board
at 1-800-321-CSLB or go to
www.cslb.ca.gov.
