Tips On Telling Your Boss - Part III

You know it’s time to tell your boss you are pregnant.  Now, you are wondering how to do it?

Tip #3: Tell Your Boss Directly

Though procrastination affects the best of us, you need to tell your boss you are pregnant before they learn the news through the proverbial grapevine—or through your ever-expanding stomach!

You may want to tell close friends and family first, and this is fine, but don’t let your boss be the last to know.  Certainly make sure your boss hears the news from you and not your coworkers.

While no law dictates that you need to tell your boss first, it just makes sense.  You don’t want your employer to believe you are hiding information, especially since this might make them wary of your plans to return to work after your pregnancy.

Instead, remember Tips #1 and #2—timing matters and be enthusiastic.  Then go ahead and tell your boss.  (Of course, stay tuned for Tip #4—Put it in writing!)
